2019 Ultra british

drip is pleased to announce the release of the Ultra British

based on the classic British pre-amp and compressor that is credited with the sound characteristics associated with early Beatles albums. this dual channel vacuum tube pre amplifier provides a full low end, powerful mid range, and a slightly grainy high end, but in tandem with the legendary Altec 436 compressor design(with optional british mods), this glues the sounds together in a way you never knew you missed.

drip's design consists of two identical boards, with left and right channels, allowing the option to use this design as two separate compressors and two separate amplifiers, or as an amazing stereo line amplifier/compressor chain. due to the inaccuracy of matching pairs of 6BC8 NOS tubes,the 6BC8 tube in the compressor section has been replaced with the 6386 remote cut-off tube, while providing the hard hitting, tight and transparent sound characteristics of the 6BC8. though similar in sound, the 6386 is by far superior with a more detailed and lusher sound.

the design revolves around the Sowter line of transformers, which are known for their impeccable tone, audio characteristics and high quality. included in the preamp design is a pair OA2 voltage regulating tubes, thus preserving the integrity of this historic design.

Exciting times in the lab! Drip will be announcing the release of the rare Varicom automatic trigger for the U73b design in the next few days, and we couldn’t be more excited. This device is for improved time constant control, providing an auto release trigger that levels the left and right signals identically to avoid a collapse of the stereo image. The Varicom prevents over-driving, and increases loudness while creating the smooth, lush and warm sounds that became synonymous with The Beatles at Abby Road. The original Telefunken U73b is the best sounding and fastest tube compressor/limiter ever built due to the automatic release trigger in the Varicom which is designed with a switchable side-chain high-pass filter with only input and output gain controls. It is our goal to bring the same quick, lush and creamy sounds to your studio with this addition to your U73b.

NOTE: The Varicom is used for linking two U73b compressors together for stereo operation. This is just for the Varicom PCB set.
