Drip 175

'The 175 is a faithful recreation of the Urei/Universal 175b variable MU limiter --
'the father of the 1176 compressor'.

Drip Electronics is proud to announce the release of the new 175 Limiting Amplifier pcb. This new design is identical to the 1965 schematic but has been laid out utilizing Drip's elegant design ethic - and contains more direct routing than the original design, providing  a quiet and very stable end product.

Almost all footprints on the pcb can accommodate 1 watt carbon composition resistors, and also different types of film capacitors ranging from basic to audiophile. Drip has chosen to retain the power supply from the original design, using a GZ34 rectifier tube, choke, and OB2 regulator backed up by eight electrolytic filtering capacitors.
This tube rectified design also adds a type of beautiful 'sag' to the compression and overall tone of the unit.  Two Caddock power resistors have been added to the power supply, aiding in ultra stability and clarity.

This limiter uses the same variable MU limiting style as the faichild 660/670 limiters .

Drip has designed this limiter pcb with options in mind. You can keep the design faithful to the original, or mix and match parts,
depending on budgetary and recording needs.

The pcb has been tested and functions perfectly with Hammond transformers / lundahal / cinemags
and Drip's recommended brand, Sowther Transformer Company.  Working closely with Sowter ,
a faithful recreation of the a-19 interstage transformer will be available in the coming weeks.
However, the unit is very compatible with the Hammond interstage if desired.

Two 600 ohm attenuators are placed on each side of the audio path as found in the original design ,

The pcb is massive with lots of separation from adjacent traces, measuring 7"x 16".
It is green solder mask on 3 oz copper and the pcb is .093" thick.
